Knox Innovation Opportunity & Sustainability Centre (KIOSC)

The KIOSC (Knox Innovation Opportunity & Sustainability Centre) is a $10.3m purpose built innovation and technology centre that has recently opened at Swinburne University's Wantirna Campus. With a focus on environmental sustainability, KIOSC will equip students with the green skills necessary for their success in the workplace of the future.
A partnership between seven secondary schools in the City of Knox and Swinburne University, KIOSC showcases sustainable building systems and design. The building itself will be a learning tool for local secondary students, enabling them to understand how buildings, people and the environment interact.
This stunning energy efficient building is designed to provide a range of flexible learning spaces equipped with modern training equipment, an excellent industry standard laboratory, and a rich array of interactive and immersive technology. It provides a range of VETis courses that address local and national skills shortages. It also offers a Discovery Program focused on preparing Years 7 - 10 students for a sustainable future. Local secondary school students will attend KIOSC at least twice a year to engage in programs designed to enhance their school curriculum and make connections with possible future careers.
In partnership with Swinburne University, KIOSC is developing a range of VCE enhancement programs to support outcomes in Chemistry, Biology, and Biotechnology, Physics and Design, and is planning Expos and exhibitions showcasing pathways in Engineering, ICT and Science.
The KIOSC program will maximise students' employment potential, broaden their career aspirations and options and respond to lo
cal industry demands for more industry focused curriculum and training. Local school communities are excited by the prospect of their students working with emerging technologies and pursuing lasting and rewarding careers in modern green industries.
A fundamental element of the KIOSC program will be the establishment of close and sustainable alliances with local businesses and community groups to enrich students learning through direct exposure to business and industry related knowledge and practices. Local businesses will be integrally involved in the program by providing opportunities for students to connect classroom learning to the 'real world' through a range of integrated programs including structured work place learning, cadetships, industry visits and mentoring.
KIOSC has great potential to increase student engagement, raise their aspirations and connect them to their future.
